Description

Large Convex Mirror called ‘witch mirror’ in a Square Shape Made in Copper with a Wood Frame.

Isn’t this quirky?

This one is unique, coming from an English theatre set. It’s handcrafted with a wooden frame and a copper structure moulded on plaster.

We love the circle inside the square, its volume, its relief, and its soft, rounded shapes.

The mirror’s tint is beautiful and deep.

The convex shape allows light to be diffused widely, making it ideal for dark interiors.

A witch mirror is a historic, magical and a particularly illuminating mirror.

In use since the 15th century, this accessory was first used to keep an eye on banks and shops. It made its way into bourgeois interiors in the following century. Legend has it that owners used to frighten their servants into believing that they were always keeping an eye on them thanks to this mirror.

The mirror was also said to be magical protecting the inhabitants of the house.

In the iconic painting by Jan van Eyck The Arnolfini couple the painter himself appears in a witch mirror. Its size makes it a centrepiece in its own right.
