Description

Here is a rare coffee service of fine Austrian porcelain from the Imperial PSL Empire factory, circa 1890.

Mocha is a complex and elegant coffee, considered the most flavorful of coffees. It comes from Ethiopia, it is an Arabica. It is served in small quantities, like in these little cups.

The porcelain is white with beautiful transparency and finesse.

The geometric and refined decor is typical of the Jugendstil style, and the dark green and gold colors are an elegant marriage. The handle is entirely gilded and the gilding is of beautiful quality.

Imperial PSL Empire is also known as “Imperial Austria” and PUL.PSL refers to the Pfeiffer & Lowenstein factory in Schlackenwerth, Bohemia, Austria. The PUL refers to Pfeiffer & Lowenstein (u being the abbreviated version of “and” in German). Founded in 1873 by Ludwig Lowenstein in Ostrov, Czech Republic (then Schlackenwerth, Bohemia Austria), the factory was managed by Josef Pfeiffer Jr in the 1900s and was renamed Pfeiffer & Lowenstein.

In 1938, the Nazis seized the factory and renamed it Schlackenwerth Josef Pfeiffer Porcelain Factory. After the war, the owners were Luise & Wilhelm Pfeiffer and George von Hoffmann until it closed in 1949.
