Description

Glazed earthenware fish service from the Manufacture in Waechtersbach, Germany, designed by Albin Müller in 1906.

Glazed earthenware with a cream background and decoration in a combination of grey, pink and taupe colours. The contours of the plates and dishes are in superb relief and all the pieces are decorated with a refined motif of fish heads, scales and fins.
The decoration was created by Albin Müller, a renowned artist who was a member of the Darmstadt Artists’ Colony.

Part of the service dates from the early 20th century and the rest from the 1960s, when it was re-issued by the Waechtersbach manufactory.
There are twelve large and twelve small plates in the shape of flat fish. We have 4 additional small plates in good condition and a few more with dark marks.
The set includes six serving dishes: two fish dishes, one long and one deep (the larger is sold), one round, one soup tureen and a very original sauce boat with the fish upside down (a fèl).

All the pieces are stamped with recessed marks under the cover for those produced in the 1900s and the Waechsterbach West Germany marks for those produced in the 1960s.

A rare find, especially with so many pieces, very pretty table decoration and this service can also be used for dishes other than fish, creating an original and funny effect.

In generally good condition with one shortage on the long, hollow dishes and one on the tail of the tureen lid which can be easily restored (see photos). This does not affect the overall beauty of the service.

Very careful packaging, insured at the value of the item.
